Stories

A Story is illustrated, page-by-page content built around one person. They're the main character, and their avatar keeps the pictures looking like them. Once the assistant writes the pages, you decide what to change.

What it is

Each Story runs five to ten pages. The person it's for is the main character, so their avatar anchors the likeness and the pictures look like them. On every page you get text, an illustration, alt text, and optional narration. Support people and pets you've added can show up too.

The range is wide. To prepare someone for something new or hard, the assistant writes in a warm, first-person voice. For a topic the person cares about, it writes to teach or explore. Same content type either way, just a different voice.

A story that explores a subject is not a separate content type. It counts, gates, lists, edits, and shares exactly like any other Story, and on the Free plan it spends a creation just like any other Story. Gentle Journeys has three content types, and Stories are one.

How it works

  1. Start in chat

    Every Story is made through the assistant. It asks what it needs, writes all the page text and the illustration directions, then shows you a preview.

  2. Confirm and choose narration

    Press "Create My Story" on the preview card. Before you confirm, choose whether to include narration, and adjust the draft pages if you want: reword one, reorder them, or remove one, with an undo and a floor of one page. The pictures are built from the version you confirmed.

  3. Let it generate

    The app saves the text first, then attaches an illustration to each page, counting them off as it goes ("Painting picture 3 of 8..."). Because the text lands before the images, a Story that hits a problem partway through is still readable.

  4. Edit what you just made

    You land on a Preview & Edit screen that reads "Story saved," and everyone can edit there, free plans included. Reword any page, refine or regenerate its picture with a written prompt, reorder pages, and remove one. "Edit with chat" works here too, on any plan: ask for the changes in plain language and apply one proposal card. Once a refine has replaced a page's first picture, a "Start over from the original picture" option aims one refine back at the original. Each change saves on its own with a brief "Saved."

  5. Finish and read

    Press Finish at the foot of the list, or in the band at the top on desktop, and the Story opens in the reader so you see how it turned out. Leaving the reader from there lands you on the Journeys library. The reader shows the Story page by page with a voice toggle and tracks progress and completion, and if you opened it from the Daily Plan, finishing it checks that plan item off.

  6. Come back to it later (Premium)

    Once the window right after creation has passed, reopening a saved Story to edit it, from its library card, an edit link, or "Edit with chat," is Premium. "Edit with chat" opens the assistant preloaded with that Story: ask for changes in plain language, review one proposal card showing the whole result with only the changed pages marked, and apply it in a tap. That's the path for adding a page. Any Story can be turned into a public link at any time, on any plan.

How the page controls work

A page card sitting at rest carries Move page up and Move page down, and nothing else. Remove lives inside the page's editor: open the inline editor on desktop, or tap the row to open its edit sheet on a phone. A removal raises an undo bar for about nine seconds, and undo brings the page back with its picture and its audio intact. A Story always keeps at least one page, and on the last one Remove is replaced by the note "A story keeps at least one page."

Plans and limits

Free
3 free creations shared across Stories, Routines, and Token Boards; every Story you make uses one, whatever its style. Creations never reset, and deleting a Story doesn't give one back. Avatar creation is included, narration is included, and you can edit a Story right after you create it. Coming back to edit it later is Premium.
Premium
Unlimited Stories, plus editing any saved Story anytime: reorder, remove, and add pages, change each page's text, and refine or regenerate each page's picture. You can make changes by hand or just by asking in chat.

Troubleshooting

What it does not do

  • Treat a topic-style story as its own thing. It's a Story like any other, so there's no separate type, label, filter, or creation limit for it.
  • Export a Story. There's no PDF or print, and no download. Sharing is by public link only.
  • Let you come back later and edit a Story on the Free plan. The window right after you create it is the free editing window.
  • Create outside chat. Every Story is made through the assistant.
  • Keep painting in the background after you stop a generation. Stopping leaves the wait; the finished pictures are saved and anything missing fills in the next time you open it, not while you are away.
