Routines

A Routine turns a daily activity into a short sequence of illustrated steps, played one at a time with a check-off for each. Open this to build one and run it with the person.

What it is

A Routine is an ordered set of steps for something the person does regularly, like a morning routine. Each step has a title, a short line of guidance, an illustration, and an optional duration in minutes. In the step images, the person's avatar, and any support people or pets from their circle, appear as likeness references, so the pictures look like the actual people doing the thing.

A Routine is the sequence, not a time on the clock. It doesn't know when in the day it should happen. To make it land at a set time, you place it in the Daily Plan, which is a separate feature.

Routine is the name we use. Under the hood it's stored as a schedule, so a few screens still say "Schedule". It's the same feature.

How it works

  1. Start in chat

Open the assistant and ask for a routine, like a morning routine. It helps you shape the steps, aiming for about 4 to 8. It'll suggest splitting anything over 10 into separate Routines, and check with you if you have fewer than 3.

  2. Review the preview card

The assistant shows a card with the numbered steps, any durations, and an "Include narration" option. Nothing is generated yet. You can reword a step, reorder them, or remove one right on the card, with an undo and a floor of one step.

  3. Confirm to create

Press "Create My Routine". To change a step through the assistant instead, describe the change in chat and it redraws the card. Once you confirm, the text steps save first, then one picture per step generates, counted off as it goes. A Routine with some pictures still missing is usable.

  4. Edit what you just made

You land on a "Routine saved" review screen, and everyone can edit there, free plans included. Change each step's title and spoken guidance, refine or regenerate its picture (with a "Start over from the original picture" option once a refine has replaced the first one), reorder steps, and remove one. "Edit with chat" works here too, on any plan: ask for the changes in plain language and apply one proposal card. Each change saves on its own with a brief "Saved."

  5. Finish and play it

Press Finish at the foot of the list, or in the band at the top on desktop, and the Routine opens in the player. Press "Start routine" and each step shows its picture, with the person pressing "Finished" to move to the next one. A progress bar tracks how far along they are, and finishing the last step shows a celebration with the person's avatar.

  6. Come back to it later (Premium)

Once the window right after creation has passed, reopening a saved Routine to edit it, from its library card, an edit link, or "Edit with chat," is Premium; on Free you get an upgrade prompt when you click Edit. "Edit with chat" opens the assistant preloaded with that Routine: ask for changes in plain language, review one proposal card showing the whole result with only the changed steps marked, and apply it in a tap. That's the path for adding a step.

How the step controls work

A step card sitting at rest carries Move step up and Move step down, and nothing else. Remove lives inside the step's editor: open the inline editor on desktop, or tap the row to open its edit sheet on a phone. A removal raises an undo bar for about nine seconds, and undo brings the step back with its picture and its audio intact. A Routine always keeps at least one step, and on the last one Remove is replaced by the note "A routine keeps at least one step."

Plans and limits

Free
3 free creations shared across Stories, Routines, and Token Boards; each Routine uses one. Creations are lifetime and one time: they never reset, and deleting a Routine doesn't give one back. Narration is included, you can edit a Routine right after you create it, and sharing by public link is free. Coming back to edit it later is Premium.
Premium
Unlimited Routines, plus editing any saved Routine anytime: reorder, remove, and add steps, change each step's text, and refine or regenerate its picture, by hand or just by asking in chat.
GentleVoice
Everything in Premium, unlimited Routines, plus narration in a caregiver's own recorded voice. See the GentleVoice article for how that works.

Common questions

Troubleshooting

What it does not do

  • No time of day or alarm on the Routine itself. Day placement happens in the Daily Plan, and the timed reminders that do exist belong to planner items in the mobile app.
  • No auto-advance. The person moves through the steps by hand.
  • No PDF, print, or export. You share a Routine by public link only.
  • No coming back later to edit a Routine on the Free plan. The window right after you create it is the free editing window.
  • No background painting after you stop a generation. Stopping leaves the wait; the finished pictures are saved and anything missing fills in the next time you open it, not while you are away.
