People and Profiles
People are how Gentle Journeys makes content personal. Every Story, Routine, and Token Board is built around a real person, with the real people in their life showing up too, and pets can appear in Stories and Routines right alongside them. From here you add and edit people and pets, keep the real places and things in their world, and jot the notes that shape everything you make next.
What it is
Your account holds a roster, and there are three kinds of members. First is the main person, sometimes called a profile, who the content is built for. Alongside them are support people: the family, teachers, and helpers who appear inside that person's content. A support person can belong to one profile, several, or all of them. And there are pets: the animals in their life, added the same way and able to show up in Stories and Routines just like the people do.
Every person has a name, an age, an appearance description, and a cartoon-style avatar. A pet is the same minus the age: a name, the kind of animal, an appearance, and an avatar. That's what lets the person see themselves, and the people and pets they know, inside what you make.
Two more layers sit on the same page. World holds illustrated versions of the real places and things in their life, kept so you can use them again. Memory holds short notes you write about the person, and those notes quietly shape everything made afterward.
One person is active at a time, which scopes the whole app to them. Premium accounts with more than one profile also get an 'Everyone' mode.
How it works
Add a profile
From the Personalization hub, select "Add Profile." A three-step wizard opens: Who, Photo, Approve.
Enter the details
Give a first name and an age from 1 to 100. The name is fixed once you save it, so use the name the person goes by.
Set the appearance
Upload a photo, take one if you're on a phone, or write a description instead. JPG or PNG, up to 20MB. A photo is used to create the avatar and an appearance description, then discarded. It's never stored.
Generate the avatar
Usually under a minute. Slow days can take two. The screen updates on its own, so there's no need to refresh.
Review
Approve the avatar ("That's {name}") or try a different photo.
Add support people
Open the support person page and enter what the main person calls them (for example "Grandma Linda"), a relationship, and an appearance. With more than one profile, you also answer "Who does this support person belong to?" with a checkbox per profile plus an Everyone option, and you can change that answer later by editing them. A main person has to exist first.
Add a pet
Same flow, one toggle. At the top of the add screen, switch Person to Pet. The age field goes away and the relationship question becomes "What kind of animal?" Give the pet's name, the kind of animal, and a photo or description, and an avatar is generated. Mention the pet by name when creating and it shows up in Stories and Routines.
Keep places and things in World
The "{Name}'s World" section holds illustrated versions of real places (a bedroom, a classroom, Grandma's house) and real things (a blue blanket, a favorite cup). Filter with the All, Places, and Things chips, and click any card to open its edit page, where you can rename it, change who it belongs to, view the illustration full size, or delete it. Cards shared with every profile carry a quiet "Everyone" pill.
Add a place or a thing
Use "Add Item" on the World heading. Step one asks whether you're adding a place or a thing, then takes a name and any details that matter, plus who it's for if you have more than one profile. Step two needs a photo, which you can upload or take on a phone, and it's required here with no describe-instead option. Step three shows the illustration and you Keep it, Refine picture, or Don't keep it. Leave before deciding and it waits in World with a "Needs review" badge. You can also keep a place or thing from a photo you share in the creation chat.
Write notes in Memory
A main person's edit page has a "{Name}'s Memory" section. Add short notes, one sentence and up to 200 characters each, tagged as an Interest, a Preference, some Context, or a Creation note. They shape every new Story, Routine, and Token Board without the assistant ever reciting them back to you.
Switch the active person
Use the person switcher in the dashboard header to focus the app on one person. It appears once you have at least one person.
Good to know
The product serves all ages, and profiles support ages 1 to 100 with an adult framing for people 18 and up. The profile-creation web address still includes "kid" in it. That's leftover naming, not a limit on who a profile is for.

Common questions
Troubleshooting
What it does not do
- Memory is for main people only. Support people and pets have no Memory section of their own.
- Pets are never profiles. They have no age, no narration voice, no planner, and they never appear on a Token Board.
- There's no species picker or breed list. The kind of animal is free text, like appearance.
- The add-a-place-or-thing wizard has no describe-instead option. That one needs a photo.
- Paid plans have no numeric profile cap. Multi-profile is a yes/no entitlement, not a limit you can hit.
- Age is a number with no date of birth, and analytics only ever sees an age band.
- Photos aren't kept. They're used to create the avatar or illustration and a short description, then discarded.
- Support people have no cap, on any plan.
- A roster stays inside one account. No cross-account or shared access.
- A main person can't be renamed after creation, on either surface. Age, description, and avatar stay editable.
